Which country domains can anyone register?

According to DotAlmanac's table of 225 extensions, 52 of the 94 country codes accept a registrant from any country. DotAlmanac is a domain extension guide and registrar: compare every extension, then register it with no KYC and pay in crypto.

The 52 open ones: .io, .ai, .co, .me, .de, .uk, .nl, .es, .tv, .cc, .gg, .so, .sh, .to, .ws, .ch, .pl, .se, .be, .at, .cz, .mx, .za, .nz, .hk, .fi, .ro, .cl, .ph, .pe, .lt, .lv, .ee, .si, .rs, .li, .ng, .ly, .gl, .is, .la, .fm, .am, .nu, .ac, .pw, .im, .mn, .cx, .ag, .vc and .gs.

"Open" does not mean "no rules". Spain's .es asks for an ID or company number, .nz needs individuals to be 18 or over, and .ai sells 2 years at a time. DotAlmanac sells six open ccTLDs in your own name and 12 more with Domain protection only.

What does "local presence" mean?

Local presence means the registry wants a local anchor: an address, a company number or a contact person in the country. You do not always have to live there yourself.

  • .jp asks for a Japanese postal address.
  • .sg asks for a Singapore-based admin contact verified through SingPass.
  • .no asks for a Norwegian organisation number, or a Norwegian national ID and address.
  • .br asks for a Brazilian CPF or CNPJ number.
  • .ie asks for a documented, real connection with Ireland.

Some registrars offer a trustee or local-presence service for .jp, .kr, .sg or .no: they act as the local contact for you. DotAlmanac does not sell these extensions and offers no trustee service.

Can you register a .eu or .fr domain from outside Europe?

For .eu, yes if you are an EU or EEA citizen; for .fr, only through an organisation established in the EU or EEA. EURid accepts EU/EEA citizens wherever they live, and residents or organisations established in the EU/EEA. AFNIC accepts individuals resident in the EU/EEA and organisations established there, and checks that data under the NIS2 rules.

Canada's .ca follows the same idea with its Canadian Presence Requirements, and Italy's .it asks for a tax or ID number. DotAlmanac sells none of these four.

Why are .de, .uk and some other country domains sold only with Domain protection?

Because their registries require the registrant's name and address, and DotAlmanac collects only one email address per domain. With Domain protection, the registry receives the details of DomaineGoat LLC instead of yours. This applies to .de, .uk, .nl, .cc, .to, .ch, .pl, .be, .at, .cz, .nz, .fi.

The option is billed +$29 yearly for each domain, in addition to the domain itself; for these extensions, it is already in the price shown. What it includes:

  1. The registrant of record is DomaineGoat LLC. You remain the beneficiary, and you can move the domain back into your own name at no cost.
  2. The transfer lock stays on.
  3. Minimal data: DomaineGoat LLC keeps only your email address.
  4. A person reads each complaint before anything is done to the domain. This human review comes only with the option.

It changes nothing in the abuse policy: the same rules apply to every domain. Details are on what is Domain protection.

Does a country domain limit who can see your site?

No. A country domain works worldwide, like any other: the TLD does not block visitors from other countries.

Search is the only place where it matters. Google uses most ccTLDs as a sign that a site targets that country. It makes an exception for 20 country codes it treats as generic, including .ai, .co, .io, .me and .tv. So a .io or .ai startup is not tied to one country in Google, while a .de site is read as German.

Country domains: FAQ

Can an American register a .de domain?

Yes. .de is open worldwide; a holder outside Germany must name a German representative if DENIC requests one. At DotAlmanac, .de is sold only with Domain protection, at $36.99/year with the option included, as of 29 October 2026.

Can I register a .eu domain without living in the EU?

Yes, if you are a citizen of an EU or EEA country, wherever you live. Otherwise you need residence in the EU/EEA or an organisation established there. DotAlmanac does not sell .eu.

Can a foreigner register a .us domain?

Only with a US nexus: US citizens or residents, US organisations, or foreign entities with a bona fide US presence. The .us registry also bans privacy and proxy services, so the owner's details stay public. DotAlmanac does not sell .us.

Do I need to live in Anguilla to register a .ai domain?

No. .ai is open to anyone, with a 2-year minimum term, the only one in DotAlmanac's table of 225 extensions. At DotAlmanac, .ai costs $84.49/year, billed 2 years at a time, with no KYC and payment in crypto.

Is .io a country domain?

Yes, the ccTLD of the British Indian Ocean Territory, and it is open to anyone. Its long-term future is tied to the Chagos sovereignty question; the UK–Mauritius treaty was shelved in 2026 and .io works normally. At DotAlmanac, .io costs $33.99/year the first year.
